Christmas & Colds

I didn’t make it to the health club yesterday; instead I stayed at home and put up the Christmas tree.  I have been dying to get this up ever since it was delivered from John Lewis in early November.   It’s not a conventional tree, it’s a sort of a contemporary twig set on a white marble stand with lights attached.   Once I got it upright and screwed into the stand, I un bent the wire branches, hung up my new white and silver barbules, switched on the lights and arranged the few presents that I’d brought around the base.  Personally I think it looks fabulous but my housemates don’t agree.  Phil thinks the new tree is ‘very me’ and Harriet took one look and said it was pathetic.   I don’t care, I like it and it’s staying!

I don’t really do Christmas and am a bit of a bar humbug; I try it every now and again and stay in the UK but every single time, I vow never again.  Christmas does absolutely nothing for me, I’m not religious and think these days it’s all about commercialism, over indulgence and stress.  We are having a gentle one this year and must unusually, we are already organised.  On Christmas Eve we’re driving down to stay with Phil’s mum and dad so we can help cook the lunch and then after lunch on Christmas Day we’re coming home to cook Harriet her favourite meal, steak and chips.  On boxing day we’re going over to Mads & Steve in Olney for the day and then after that nothing in the diary until New Years Eve.  On NYE we are joining Mads & Steve for dinner at Robinsons.   No doubt the first day of 2011 we will be hung over and then for Phil, it’s back to work.  Sorted!

Still on the subject of Christmas, I just want to let everyone know that we don’t do Christmas cards mainly because we’re normally out of the country but also because I really don’t see the point of cards.   Normally we make a donation to Willen Hospice but this year we’re donating Christmas card money to Cancer Research.  I can’t think of a better cause and I do hope this is okay with everybody.

Short and sweet this Friday morning I’m afraid.  What started out as a snuffle yesterday morning has turned into a fast running stream of snot.  We're full of germs in this household but hopefully they will clear over the weekend.  I have much to do but I feel rubbish so I’ve decided to have a duvet day and catch up my TV recordings.  I'm particularly enjoying my bed at the moment.  Before we went away I ordered new bedding from a company called www.thebestbedlinenintheworld.com

I have always had a thing about the quality of bed linen in hotels and after spotting an ad in the Sunday Times a few months back, offering a 25% discount I decided to splash out.  Phil grumbled at the cost but when he slipped in-between the sheets even he agreed that they were luxurious.   We do need a higher tog winter quilt because ours is only a 10 tog but I am going to hang out for the sales before I buy.

Have a good weekend everyone; this girlie is going back to bed.

well as you know i LOVE the tree :)

You are the complete opposite to me with regards to Christmas, its my favourite time of the year and i love to send and receive cards and have posted cards to people all over the world.

However i have put a stop to buying friends Christmas presents and this year i am only buying for family - which has saved me having to buy 14 pressies.

Tegan has the norovirus (winter sickness bug) ive been up since 2am with her and having been sick 12 times she is now fast asleep on the sofa.

oh and i saw that man behind our homes again yesterday so phoned the police for the 2nd time in 4 days :(
